All-Natural Anti-Aging Tips: Stay Young Naturally

by Marilyn Etzel

They say that beauty is only skin deep but how that skin looks as you age goes much deeper than that. Before you reach for creams and chemical preparations, try a more natural approach to staying young. Here are some tips to help you age gracefully that will work for every woman.

As we age, the effects of what we put into and onto our bodies begins to show. For instance, life lived in a harsh environment will affect the look and feel of your skin. Eating processed foods affects your internal environment and how it functions from year to year. With a little leg work you can change your body inside and out for a more youthful appearance no matter what your age.

1. Drink lots of water. The body is composed of 90 percent water. Water gives the body an internal shower each day. It flushes your digestive and urinary systems. With fewer toxins in the body, everything operates more efficiently.

2. Get regular physical activity. The heart and the lungs need a workout too. Working out for at least 30 minutes a day strengthens those organs and increases your oxygen supply to the brain for better concentration and focus. Exercise also releases those "feel good" endorphins that lighten our mood and lessen stress.

3. Manage your weight. Too much weight can lead to problems with your health such as high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke and heart disease. Losing weight reduces your risk factors and also promotes longevity.

4. Get regular medical checkups. Many ailments and cancers can be caught in the early stages with a yearly physical. As you age there are recommendations for getting mammograms, colonoscopies and other preventative tests to keep the body in tiptop shape.

5. Complement your beauty with natural treatments. Everything in the store is not good for your skin. Create your own products using plants, flowers, fruits and herbs. These natural products can do the job without harmful side effects.

6. Avoid tanning salons and harmful rays. If you want to be out in the sun, use a sunscreen that contains natural skin protectors like zinc oxide. Sitting in the sun unprotected can lead to skin cancers down the road. Choose a high SPF for maximum protection.

7. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals in your body that attack the body's cells and cause us to age ungracefully. Leafy green veggies, orange and yellow veggies, and all types of citrus fruits contain antioxidants that keep you looking young. If you aren't getting enough in your diet, consider taking antioxidant supplements.

8. Sleep like a baby. The body repairs itself while you sleep. Without proper rest your immune system falters and you are vulnerable to all sorts of diseases and the effects of stress. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

Are you getting old before your time? Try these suggestions to age gracefully and live a long and healthy life.

Mineral Powder Bronzer: A Truly Natural Tanned Look

by Marilyn Etzel

When the weather is warm and the sun is high everyone wants to be outside. Before that special vacation trip, many hit the tanning bed to get a golden coloring to their skin. Save your money and choose a natural tan instead of damaging your skin.

But, you still want a deeper color to your skin. Choose a mineral makeup bronzer instead of the sun or the tanning bed. A bronzer will add color to your face just as if you had been out in the sun all day. Bronzers come in different shades so be sure to choose one that will complement your normal skin tone.

Because you are using natural mineral makeup, the powder is lightweight and melts into your skin as your body warms up. Your bronzer coverage looks natural and enhances your best features while hiding wrinkles and any discolorations on your face. All anyone will notice is the fresh out of the sun look when you haven't been anywhere at all.

For an added sparkle to your skin, choose a mineral bronzer with shimmering effects. For an evening on the town it gives your skin that extra special glow that will get noticed. The tanning bed can't provide this type of look and with the health benefits.

Applying bronzer to your face is not that hard. Before applying anything, moisturize your face as you usually do. Dry your skin completely.

The first step is to apply a foundation. It's like an artist's palette. The canvas (your face) needs a base so that all of the other colors look their best. Next apply your bronzer to the apples of your cheeks. That is the rounded part that shows when you smile, in case you didn't know. Grandmothers love that part of your cheeks.

Don't stop there. Apply your mineral bronzer to other areas of your face as well. Go to your forehead and sweep side to side; then proceed down the bridge of your nose. Your bronzer will be darker than your foundation but only as dark as you would look if tanned by the sun.

Bronzer works well on other body parts, too. If you decide to go out wearing a strapless dress, you'll need those shoulders to have a bit of sun as well. Apply bronzer to the tops and front of shoulders and your neck. It'll look like you sunned all day.

What about your legs? They can benefit from a few strokes of your magic minerals. Since the legs are a larger area, you'll end up applying more powder there but your Kabuki makeup brush can handle the job. It was made to provide full coverage wherever you need it. Your bronzer can replace pantyhose for outdoor or formal functions when it is too warm for the real thing. No one will know about this makeup trick since minerals melt into your skin and not in streaks down your leg.

The sun can be harsh on your skin. Instead of giving you a great tanned look it will also show damage. Use mineral powder bronzer to simulate a tan without the harmful effects.
