Winter Makeup Tips and Trends

Don't let the long cold winter bring you down. Your makeup can keep looking hot all year long. Check out our tips!

Choose a foundation that offers a little more coverage than you would in the summer. You don't have to look like you are wearing a mask, but everyone needs a little more in the winter. Plus, you won't have to worry about it melting off like you do in hot weather. Opt for a dewy finish. It will keep your skin looking moist instead of dry.

Don't use too much powder. I actually give this suggestion all year long. I didn't say DON'T use powder; I just suggest you keep it to a minimum. Powders can make your skin look dry. A little powder will go a long way. Use the appropriate amount of powder to set your foundation, and if you need it, give yourself a little more coverage. That is all you need. If your skin is oily, try using blotting papers during the day instead of powder. This will prevent your makeup from caking up.

Don't be scared of color in the winter. This applies to lips, eyes, and cheeks. Many women I see want to pull out all their brown and taupe cosmetics as soon as fall arrives. This is not necessary. Winter is the perfect time to explore colors such as berries and rich wine tones. Always choose between playing up your lips or eyes. It is not a good idea to go heavy on both. That being said, if you choose a heavy smokey effect for your eyes, go a little softer on your lips.

Overall, winter doesn't have to be a bad thing for skin and makeup. Try a few new techniques, and your makeup can look just as great as it does in the spring and summer

The End To Dry Skin

Do you notice your skin feels dry, tight, or uncomfortable in the winter months? You are not the only one! Falling temperatures and humidity levels can really irritate the skin on your face. However, with a little more time and work, it is still possible to have soft skin - even in the winter. Selecting the right skin care products can help you deal with that dry winter skin. Here are a few simple steps to keep your skin glowing all year long.

To start, always look for for a non-foaming cleanser. Any product that foams is not suitable for dry skin. It means it has detergent in it, and detergent will only dry the skin out more. A milky or creamy cleanser takes off makeup effectively, but will not dry the skin out. It is different than a foaming cleanser, so it may take some getting used to. Apply a small amount of the product to dry skin. Massage it in, then rinse or tissue it off. Use the cleanser two times a day - in the morning and at night.

Second, after a thorough cleansing, apply a non-drying toner. Toners are an important step in your beauty routine. They eliminate any excess cleanser, and prepare your skin for treatment products and moisturizers. The toner balances your skin's pH level, making sure your skin can accept moisturization properly.

For daytime, use a hydrating cream. This is very important! Your moisturizer is the only barrier between your skin and the harsh elements. I like to select a cream that soaks in to my skin, so I don't have to worry about looking shiny throughout the day.

At night, use a separate night cream. It will be a little heavier than your day cream, but in the evening you don't have to worry about makeup running off or your face looking shiny. Plus, when you get up in the morning, your skin will feel fabulous!

Keeping your skin healthy in the winter does not have to be difficult. You just have to make sure you are using the appropriate products.
