Homemade Facial Scrubs

Homemade facial cleansers and homemade beauty products with honey are a good option if your skin is very sensitive to store bought cleansers or if your'e looking to save money. One of the best type of cleansers are ones that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) because they help dissolve the glue that holds dead skin cells together making it easier to exfoliate the skin and allow anti-aging creams and moisturizers to penetrate it.

Alpha hydroxy acids are found in lots of simple fruits and foods including milk, lemons, oranges, pineapples, tomatoes and vinegar. An AHA cleanser is great for dry skin because it clears the skin of dead cells allowing for better and deeper penetration of moisturizers. And yet, they are equally good for oily skin because they help dissolve excess oils and trapped dirt in the pores.

For a Dry skin homemade facial cleanser - mix 3 tablespoons of whole milk and 1 full tablespoon of sugar into a paste. Then scrub this all over your face and neck and rinse well.

Apply a moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp. You can use an olive oil moisturizer or a clinically approved moisturizer for severely dry skin that provides up to 8 hours of continuous hydration. This is a great time to apply a good moisturzer, because the skin is super clean and will be able to absorb it better.

For oily skin your homemade cleanser should contain - 2 tablespoons of baking soda along with either lemon juice or tomato juice. If you have lots of blotches and red spots, use the lemon juice. Mix enough juice so that you can form a thick paste. Rub this paste well all over your face including your nose and cheek area where you tend to have the most oil or blackheads and whiteheads.

Make sure to rinse very well in cool water and apply a moisturizer especially formulated for oily skin. A good, non-greasy moisturizer is important to keep skin properly hydrated.

A homemade cleanser for normal skin - can include any type of AHA you have in the house, just as long as you add a mild abrasive like sugar, oatmeal, baking soda or crush almonds. Sources of AHA include: milk (low fat or whole), lemons, oranges, pineapples, vinegar, and yogurt.

Mix the ingredients into a paste adding more or less until the consistency is thick. Massage this paste over the face and neck lightly and rinse well with cool water. Make sure to follow-up with a moisturizer. You won't believe how great your skin will feel and look.
