Acne Cleansers – Are They Effective For Clearing Up Bad Skin?
On the market are hundreds of cleansers and topical acne treatments, so what do these do and are they successful? The basic ingredients of these products are acids and vitamins designed for treating pimples.
However, these topical products have a limited aspect to their workability. This is because they attempt to unclog skin pores and remove excess skin oils and skin bacteria.
This way of trying to treat acne is in fact flawed because excess oils and bacteria are only involved in the late stages of acne development. Thus trying to handle this late stage is doomed to failure. The body is capable of producing more oil and the bacteria will resist the attempts to remove it.
Acne products that are applied to the skin can often even worsen acne. Here's how. When the body sees that there is less oil on the skin (due to the cleansers), it will sometimes try and produce more oil, overcompensating for an artificial lack of oil. Long term use of these topicals unfortunately worsens acne in many cases.
The much better way is to attack the causes for excess oil in the early stage of acne development, instead of trying to get rid of oil once it's already been made.
However, if you really want a cleanser or some other topical to treat your acne I recommend you avoid chemical based ones found in places like chemists and go for a natural ingredients based version instead. This way you won't get the negative side effects often caused by chemical cleaners and are more likely to see positive results.
At the core of what needs to be handled though, if you really want to clear up your acne, is to balance the hormones that cause the body to produce lots of oil, and thus see an decrease in oil and a resolution to acne for good.
So remember that acne cleaners and topicals are not going to miraculously clear up your acne and are well overpriced, and can even worsen your acne in the long term.
