Rubbing Alcohol for Acne?
As children, we all got injured at one point. And nothing good ever followed the injury. Usually, it was a mix of yelling and applying rubbing alcohol to the wound. Why alcohol? Because it had powerful anti-bacterial properties. Our mother's didn't want the wound to become infected. Most of us know that bacteria is more or less intertwined in the development of acne.. So, it would seem that alcohol would be a good solution to fighting the disorder. It turns out that this is far from the truth.
Oily skin is often blamed for causing acne. People have the misconception that anyone with this type of skin will eventually get acne. Yet, this is not entirely true. There are other factors that come into play. People with dry skin can likewise suffer from the disorder when other unfavorable variables are present. Dry skin is just one risk factor for the condition, much like the other extreme.
The big downfall of rubbing alcohol is that it is extremely drying. It will trigger irritation and leave you more susceptible to acne. Taking this into consideration, its anti-bacterial properties seem of less importance. Alcohol is far from being the perfect solution for clear skin. Many commercially-available treatments actually contain alcohol, which can ultimately stint any progress. So, be sure to read product labels very carefully before investing in any sort of acne product.
If despite the irritation you are set on using this in your treatment, please use moisturizer. It will help do away with the irritation and you will still get that anti-bacterial effect. If your goal with rubbing alcohol is to reduce the oil on your face, there are better alternatives that are far less irritating.
Oil blotting sheets and mattifying products are two that come to mind. You don?t need to damage your fragile skin with this harsh solution to get relief! If you have friends that are using this product in their regimen, please inform them of the risks. You don?t want them fighting an uphill battle against acne!
